Best Actress 2006:Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada
Meryl Streep received her fourteenth nomination for her performance as Miranda Preistly in The Devil Wears Prada. Miranda is the boos from hell who is constantly demanding impossible things from her assistants (Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt) and is downright cruel at times. But Miranda is no one note bitch. Streep invests nuances in this role which other actress's couldn't. She could have been over the top, but instead she underplays it wonderfully. Her delivery and timing are perfect. She also shows that Miranda is an ambitious person who does what she can to get on top at all costs and who expects the best out of those around her. Streep also humanizes the character and keeps us interested in Miranda from start to finish. The only problem is that her role feels more like a Supporting role. Anne Hathaway is the main focus of the movie and I wish there more time spent time with Miranda since I loved every moment she was screen. Still, a great performance by one of the best actresses ever which gets

Yeah, I agree her role was supporting and I'm sure if she had been nominated in the supporting category, she would have won for sure.
I wonder if they thought Streep was too big of a star to be put as a supporting nominee?
Out of all the fabulous scenes she procured, I especially love her red-carpet entrance. The one that occurs right as Anne leaves Miranda to then throw away her phone.
Meryl had so much grace and poise. And to think she's usually organic during her real red-carpet entrances.
I just love that scene coz it shows just how skilled Miranda is at wearing facades.
Sara919: Yeah, probably. Maybe in a year without Jennifer Hudson. And yeah, they did think that, most likely.
Nigel: That's a great scene! I'm thinking of changing her rating to five stars. Her performance really grows on me!
And Sara, nomination fraud of this sort makes me mad sometimes. In this case its ok, coz its Streep.
Anyway, the same happened with "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford." Casey Affleck helmed that story, but when the campaigns started Pitt was baited for lead. When really, Affleck should have been the one getting that privilege (imo). Never mind the fact that Pitt was in his prime in that role; Affleck was better.
Luckily the Academy ignored that commercial move and then it gave the movie's only acting nomination to Casey Affleck. (who btw was brilliant, someone write about him!). I guess I should start writing away when summer comes.
btw, I love this picture. She looks like a poised and glammed up Cruella De Ville LOL
I wrote about Affleck back in early January.
I shall check that out. Can you post me the exact link of the article over here?

It's been a while since I've seen the movie and I don't know how I would great her but there is something magnetic about her performance! Great performance of a scene-stealing character!
Nigel: I haven't seen Afleck yet, but I'm sure he's great! And I love the picture also!
Fritz: I know! Her presence drives the whole film!
Judi Dench's performance in Notes Of a Scandel is truly unmissable. A fantastic Movie. Meryl Streep is just undoubtably one of my favourite actress's, and just loved the role she played so well in DWP.
