Places In The Heart review

Wow, I didn't really like this film. It's a simple story which we've seen a million times and it felt like a lifetime movie. Sally Field was good, but I was underwhelmed by her . She has some great moments, but, like Fritz said in his review of her performance, the script limits her character so her performance felt incomplete to me. She was a lot better in Norma Rae which is also a much stronger film.I don't really get John Malkovich and Lindsay Crouse's nominations. They were good, but Oscar-worthy? And the ending. Oh my god, the ending. It made absolutely no sense to me. I won't give it away, but seriously. The last scene makes no sense what so ever. I have no idea why this was nominated for Best Picture and won Best Actress and Best Original Screenplay. My grade for the film: C minus. What do you think of this movie? Do you like Field's performance?

I don't really like Field's performance, but I'm glad she won. Plus, once you see the other nominees, this was a WEEEEAAAAAAAK year ;]

I really loved both Sally and the movie. It was quite a big surprise to me but I just loved them.

Sage: Yeah, everyone says that this was a pretty weak year.
Dinasztie: To each his own, but I just couldn't warm up to the movie.

The ending [I believe] signifies that in that higher place "heaven" ostensibly everyone will sit together and literally have "communion". I do understand Malkovich's nod, Crouse - not so much. Madigan was I believe excellent in her role.

I really liked the movie and I also liked Sally Field. It was no tour-de-force but she did what she had to do beautifully...even if that wasn't much. I am torn between her and Judy Davis for Best Actress that year.

Andrew: That makes sense, but still.....

Fritz: I think she had some strong moments, but it just felt off to me.

O Hail Ms. Field!
She's had such a good career. 2 Oscars in the bag, a lot of films to account for her talent and a steady career on prime time tv...Lest we forget the honors she's received for it (Emmys for Brothers and Sisters etc).
