Best Supporting Actress 1997

1. Julianne Moore in Boogie Nights: Moore is simply riveting in this performance. She is heartbreaking, sad, warm, beautiful. Could be her best work along with Far From Heaven.

2. Joan Cusack in In & Out: A brilliant comic performance. Cusack adds so much to the film and to her character. Even better then her work in Working Girl.

3. Gloria Stuart in Titanic: Stuart helps keep Titanic afloat (No pun intended) with her beautiful performance. Sadly and unjustly underrated.

4. Minnie Driver in Good Will Hunting: Driver tries, but she can't elevate her role beyond a bland love interest. Surprisingly annoying and two-dimensional as well.

5. Kim Basinger in L.A Confidential: Um,how the hell did she win? She adds nothing special to her character or film and you can't take anything note-worthy away from her performance except her stunning beauty.

So,what do you think? Do you disagree with my thoughts?

Wow,lol. What did you think of Stuart?

Sage Slowdive said...

It's okay....good, but I think an Oscar for it would be a little too much.

I can't believe that Driver and Basinger were even nominated. Why did Basinger win?

Sage Slowdive said...

The voters saw LA Confidential, they didn't see Boogie Nights :]

Which is why Burt Reynolds and the screenplay didn't win...

I used to dislike Basinger a lot but she really grew on me but I still give the win to Cusack.

Sage: That makes senses, but I think maybe the content turned them off. Even so, why would Basinger be the frontrunner?

Fritz: What's your ranking?

That could have been it...it's still a mystery why everyone went crazy on Basinger...

2. Julianne Moore
3. Joan Cusack
4. Minnie Driver
5. Kim Basinger.

It was Stuart's year for me.

I wouldn't have minded her winning, but I liked Moore and Cusack better. What did you think of Basinger?

We have the same ranking :-) although I don't remember Cusack well, because I saw In & Out a long time ago on TV.

You should see it again! Weird that me, you, and Sage have the same ranking.

Joe, did you like L.A. Confidential?

Yes! The only other nominee which would have been a worthy winner besides Titanic, in my opinion. You that that is should have won, right?
